Freedom for All Americans is the bipartisan campaign to secure full nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ people nationwide. Freedom for All Americans includes two separate entities – Freedom for All Americans and Freedom for All Americans Education Fund, collectively referred to as Freedom for All Americans (FFAA). Our work brings together conservatives and progressives, businesses large and small, people of faith, and allies from all walks of life to make the case for comprehensive non-discrimination protections that ensure everyone is treated fairly and equally.
With the ultimate goal of securing nationwide nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ Americans, Freedom for All Americans works at the federal, state, and local level to grow public support for comprehensive and inclusive nondiscrimination protections, protect more people from discrimination, and build the team of advocates and influencers advocating for nondiscrimination protections. Founded in 2015, FFAA is a virtual organization with staff located across the country.
FFAA is seeking a Director of Individual & Corporate Giving to start in July, 2019. The Director of Individual & Corporate Giving should be an individual deeply committed to advancing LGBTQ equality and LGBTQ nondiscrimination protections.
Experienced applicants are encouraged to apply for this full-time position, to develop and manage a portfolio of donors and prospective donors (“donors/prospects”) and to develop a corporate giving program. The Director is responsible for qualifying new prospects to build their portfolio with some emphasis on deepening relationships with existing donors; and, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding annual gifts ($1,000 to $50,000) from donors/prospects in the portfolio. The Director will spend a significant amount of time in direct interaction with individual donors/prospects as well as corporate partners, working remotely and traveling, while helping donors/prospects and corporate partners fulfill their passions and interests through their giving to Freedom for All Americans. The Director will also help develop a corporate giving program including developing a compelling case for support comprised of funding opportunities and relative recognition plans with a particular emphasis on bridging programmatic engagement to philanthropic engagement. The right candidate will bring humor, grit, joy, and high standards to their work – understanding how strong relationships, philanthropic values, and effective stakeholder engagement contribute to FFAA/EF’s mission and vision.
The Director of Individual & Corporate Giving reports to the Vice President of Development and will interface closely with many members of the team. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Qualify donors and activist supporters of FFAA’s state and local campaigns as prospects for FFAA – individuals with four- to five-figure annual capacity – to build a portfolio of prospects for FFAA’s nationwide LGBTQ nondiscrimination work.
- Create unique goals for each person in the portfolio based on the individual’s history of giving and the organization’s knowledge of their capacity and interests. Create a comprehensive plan for each donor/prospect in the portfolio and execute that plan so that individual donors are qualified, retained, and upgraded.
- Secure visits with, and directly solicit major annual gifts from donors/prospects in the portfolio in person (or in other media as appropriate) across the continental United States.
- Partner with senior and program staff and/or volunteers on donor engagement opportunities.
- Work with the appropriate staff to secure project information and use this information to develop materials directed at individual donors/prospects, such as highly personalized proposals that are in line with donor interests and programmatic priorities, stewardship reports that detail progress made possible by a particular gift, etc.
- As needed, develop communications to educate and cultivate donors/prospects about the work of FFAAEF and to inspire philanthropic support of that work.
- Participate in the development of special cultivation and stewardship opportunities, such as small events for select donors/prospects in the portfolio, and participate in larger donor cultivation and networking events.
- Track portfolio activity and progress.
- Develop a compelling case for support for corporate and business stakeholders in LGBTQ nondiscrimination, as well as relevant corporate engagement, funding, and recognition opportunities.
- Partner with corporate and business engagement programmatic staff to move programmatically engaged businesses and corporations toward philanthropically supporting FFAA.
- Develop and manage FFAA’s corporate funder portfolio including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of annual corporate financial and in-kind support at five- and six-figure annual levels.

Our ideal candidate will have:
- A deep commitment to advancing LGBTQ equality and nondiscrimination protections.
- Minimum of four years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with accumulative responsibility and a proven record of securing visits with prospective individual donors and corporate funders, and soliciting, closing, and stewarding major gifts. The most competitive candidates also will have proven experience converting new donors/prospects into major donors. Experience soliciting special, multi-year commitments also preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to understand and explain LGBTQ legislative and litigative nondiscrimination work in a way that is concise, compelling, and easy to understand for donors/funders and prospective donors.
- Strong organizational skills. Ability to develop long-term plans, set objectives, and track progress towards achieving objectives. Familiarity with the concepts of moves management preferred.
- Personal initiative, curiosity about people, and a sense of humor. Friendly, outgoing, and collaborative approach and a strong team-oriented style.
- Proficiency with office technology and information systems (including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and donor databases.
- Willingness to travel frequently and nationally–including periodic weekend and evening responsibilities—and work effectively on the road in a variety of environments.
- A professional approach and a commitment to a workplace that values and respects differences of race, ethnicity, age, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, ability, political affiliation, and socio-economic circumstances.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, including prioritizing appropriately and tracking and reporting progress internally and to funders.
- Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, campaign environment and adapt to a quickly changing landscape while being detail-oriented.
- Appetite for collaboration in a team-based environment across multiple time zones with minimal supervision.
LOCATION AND TRAVEL
This position is preferably based in Washington, DC or NYC. Candidates must be able to work from home and feel comfortable frequently engaging with colleagues and partners by phone, video conference, email, and other digital communications tools.
This position requires significant travel, including at least 2 staff retreats, ad hoc organizational meetings, movement gatherings, fundraising events, and more.
FFAA will provide all of the tools necessary to succeed in this position.
Salary is commensurate with experience. [$75,000 – $90,000]
