Our work brings together Republicans, Democrats, and Independents; businesses large and small; people of faith; and allies from all walks of life to make the case for comprehensive non-discrimination protections that ensure everyone is treated fairly and equally.
Equality Virginia (EV) is the leading advocacy organization in Virginia seeking equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people. EV believes in a truly inclusive Commonwealth where all are equally valued, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, and a Virginia that is a safe, welcoming, and equal place for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals and their families to live, work, and play.
SCOPE OF WORK
Freedom for All Americans and Equality Virginia seek an experienced Coalition Director to lead public education efforts to increase support for comprehensive nondiscrimination protections for the LGBTQ community.
The contractor will work collaboratively with FFAA staff and local partner Equality Virginia to develop and implement a plan for outreach to key business and community leaders, secure earned media, and develop a broad coalition with demonstrable goals and timelines.
The Coalition Director will be responsible for identification and outreach to new coalition partners, faith leaders and other influential community leaders to build upon and expand the existing relationships of Equality Virginia and national partners. Supported by Freedom for All Americans press and social media teams, an emphasis will also be placed on creating opportunities to demonstrate public support and to publicize stories of LGBTQ individuals and “unlikely” supporters including conservatives, business leaders, clergy, elected officials, and others.
This Coalition Director will work closely with the Equality Virginia team on the ground. The work plan progress will be overseen by Freedom for All Americans national staff and regular reporting and tracking of progress will be shared with both organizations. In addition, they will partner with and act as a resource for local coalition partners who support execution of the campaign plan.
Position is available July 2019 thru January 2020.
- Minimum three years campaign experience, including public education, legislative advocacy and/or candidate campaigns
- A deep commitment to advancing LGBTQ equality and nondiscrimination protections.
- Some knowledge of the Virginia political landscape
- Experience building and managing coalition relationships and history of conducting outreach to community leaders, including leaders of business, clergy, or Republican communities
- Understanding of public education campaigns to build support for progressive issues in red states
- Experience developing written plans and provide regular reporting
- Ability to work in fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
- Ability to work independently, with strong time management skills.
LOCATION AND TRAVEL
This position is preferably based in Richmond, VA but other locations in VA may be considered. Candidates must be able to work from home and feel comfortable frequently engaging with colleagues and partners by phone, video conference, email, and other digital communications tools.
This position requires frequent in-state travel and flexible work calendars, including some weekend and evening commitments.
This is a contract position. Monthly rate commensurate with the expected volume of work, paid upon invoice, plus reimbursement of reasonable travel expenses.
